A social night before Christmas
In keeping with the Christmas spirit, I have put together a festive poem to spread a little Yuletide marketing cheer.
Social media doesn‘t take a break for the holidays! Have a jolly day, stay safe, and remember to be thankful for the many blessings around us. Merry Christmas!
A Social Night before Christmas
Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house
Not a gadget was stirring, not even a computer mouse.
The stockings were hung by the LED TV with care,
In hopes that new netbooks soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Angry Birds danced in their heads.
And she in her Geek Squad tee, and I in my cap,
Had just settled in for a long winter nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
To the window, like a USB drive, I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the face of the new-fallen snow
Gave the glow of fiber optics to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should arrive,
But eight social media outlets, like a new website gone live.
With a nerdy young fellow, who arrived with a spurt,
I knew in a moment he was the ultimate social media expert.
More rapid than spam mail his outlets they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
“Now Pinterest! Now Google+! Now Facebook and Twitter!
On Flickr! On YouTube! On Wordpress and Blogger!
To the top of the feed! To the top of the wall!
Now click away! Click away! Click away all!
As the Internet connected through cable it flies,
Or data through Bluetooth, it zips through the sky.
And so through the outlets the media flew,
Arriving on smart phones, and computers too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard what must have been he
Clacking and tapping his laptop‘s each little key.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Into my home office Mark Zuckerburg came with a bound.
He was dressed like a nerd, from his feet to his head,
And I knew it was he about whom I had read.
Like a YouTube video gone viral he burst into my house,
Bearing gizmos and gadgets, plus an Apple Magic Mouse.
His screens, how they twinkled! His keyboards, how merry!
In one hand an Android, in the other a Blackberry!
His eyes narrowed in on his social platforms,
Through a flurry of typing, new posts they were born.
Through Foursquare he let everyone know he was in town,
And proudly he wore his badge of Mayor like a crown.
His Facebook timeline was impeccably smart;
His tweets were practically works of art!
He was geeky and hip, a right jolly young man,
Quickly I added his photo to Instagram!
With a blink of his eye, to his blog he set sail,
Stopping only for a moment to check his Gmail.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
Blogging holiday memes, then turned with a jerk.
He guided his mouse to the space reading Publish,
And I was amazed at what a blog could accomplish.
He sprang to his Prius, gave his outlets a look,
And to him they flew like book nerds to a Nook.
Then I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"
